EATPLAYDRIP

EATPLAYDRIP is an interdisciplinary tabletop installation. The work was created and presented at the artist residency ARTSLETTERS&NUMBERS/Sunship Thesis in August 2022.

EATPLAYDRIP encompasses ideas intersecting female identity, childhood food, play,

and global warming. The photos on this project page depict the interactive project table (laid out) with jello shots, a sandbox, molds, books, balloon ice sculptures, lights, candles, fire, bricks, and related ephemera. The table was experienced both onsite (in Averill Park, NY) and via a global audience live-streamed event.

The work's genesis comes from the notion that the kitchen molded my artistic identity. As a child, I witnessed powerful women (mothers, aunts, grandmothers) execute large-scale family dinners. The ritual and executive functions involved shopping, cooking, arranging, cleaning, and assembling. The prep started weeks before the holiday, culminating in a feast prepared with love for my family - a small army. This tabletop installation encompasses a reinterpretation of molded foods, the invisible labor of women, and the joy of human gatherings.
